Man dies following workplace accident in Sheffield

An investigation has begun following the death this week of a man at a Sheffield engineering works due to a workplace accident.

The man, who has yet to be named, was the victim of an industrial accident at Doncaster-based Precision Forgings on Penistone Road at 7.20am on 28 July, 2010.

As the accident happened so recently, details of the circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been revealed.

South Yorkshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched a joint investigation into the workplace accident.

A police spokesman said, "A man has died after an industrial incident at Doncaster's Precision Forgings in Sheffield. Police were called to the premises on Penistone Road at around 7.20am yesterday morning.

"The man was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where he was later pronounced dead,” he added.

David Jennings, divisional managing director at Doncaster Precision Forgings, spoke of the firm's sadness at the employee's death on site. Everyone at the firm was devastated by the news, he said, and their thoughts are with his family and friends. Mr Jennings added that the company is doing "everything they can to provide support at this difficult time."
